A New Home

Sorry I haven't been on here lately...I have just moved into a new apartment!   My cat and I both love the new place.   It's a nice one-bedroom in an older building.  I'm upstairs and I have my own entrance and stairway.  Hardwood floors, a small balcony porch, comfortable sized rooms. (Except the bathroom... good thing I'm not too prissy!)  In-town, a mile from work, close to family members.  If I ever get it in shape and decent looking, I'll post some pictures.  Right now it still looks like a bombshell went off.  LOL.  I suppose that happens when most of your stuff has been in the last house 20-35 years.  I was in my parents house before here.  They were ill the last few years, and my daughter and I stayed with them.  When I moved, we just threw things in boxes and I'm trying to sort it all out.

So...in honor of my new place, I've made some "home" themed wordarts for you.  Hope you enjoy them!

Goodbye JR

Today I have a "double" tribute to Larry Hagman, the actor who gave life to the unforgettable JR Ewing.  Even if you didn't watch the show, it seems as though everyone knows JR.  Mr. Hagman brought this character to life as someone everyone loved to hate.  I think he'd like that I'm using this quote of his today.  And... the font I used is "Jeannie", modeled after the title letters used on the show "I Dream of Jeannie", another Larry Hagman classic.  RIP, Larry.

Finally ...a kit!

It's been a long time since I posted a kit.  I started making this kit yesterday, and I just couldn't stop until I got it done.  It has 15 papers, 20 elements, an alphabet, 3 masks, and 6 wordarts.  It is a celebration of my daughter's engagement, and I wanted a "fun" kit.  I especially like the "she said yes!" wordart and the hearts border.  I hope you enjoy the kit too.

Support for storm victims

I was going to post part 2 of my John Denver wordarts this week, and then remebered that my Wicked Wednesday was actually going to be on Halloween, so then I decided to go with a "wicked" theme of wordarts.

THEN...Sandy struck.  Fortunately, I was on the northern edge of the storm, so other than leaves and branches, there was not much damage in my area, especiallly when it compares to the mid-Atlantic states.  I wanted to show my support for the area.

Just a couple of weeks ago, my daughter and some friends were in NYC.   I have decided to post some of the wordarts I made for her trip and share them.  I hope that in some small way I can show the  residents, friends and relatives of those affected that  we have confidence that the area will soon come back to life and restore some of its beauty and pride.

My thoughts and prayers are with them.

Wicked Wednesday "quickie" freebie

Happy Wednesday to all!  Today s just a quick little freebie for you.  I saw the "big whoop" on a whoopie pie at the store one day. It gave me a giggle for the day.  :)  Also, I love that Subway ad with the office workers in little kid voices, and the guy with the sandwich says "big whoop" with just the right attitude.  Cracks me up every time!

Hal David songs

This week I have wordarts from the lyricist Hal David.  He was a gifted writer who wrote hits for many performers in the pop era.  With Burt Bachrach, his songbook was quitte extensive, recorded by such artists as Perry Como, the Carpenters and Herb Alphert.  Of course, the most famous collaboration was with Dionne Warwick. who made his lyrics come to life.  I have made wordarts of just a few of his best known songs...there are so many more that could also be made into wordarts.  Now that I've posted this, I can get back to humming "I Say a Little Prayer", which I haven't been able to get out of my head!

Another Wednesday, another freebie

It's an amazing world we live in, isn't it?  Here we are, in the 21st century, doing so much that were only dreams just 50 short years ago.  My wordart for this week honors the passing of the first person to step upon the surface of the moon, one of the most significant moments of the past 50 years.  And this quote is one of the most famous quotes of the 20th century.

oh wow...Wednesday

Three goodbyes this week... two were in their 90's  --that's the oh wow part!  one sadly was only in his 60's.

First is Helen Gurley Brown, a feminist icon of the last 50 years.  She was in her 90's, and had a long and interesting life.  I'm sharig one of my favorite quotes of hers today:

Next is baseball legend Johnny Pesky, another legend who passed away in his 90's.  A contemporary of Ted Williams, Johnny Pesky was a favorite fixture for the Boston Red Sox.  I have chosen to  highlight John Fogerty's song, which I'm sure were Mr Pesky's first words to St Peter at the Pearly Gates!

Finally, one of the beloved "Sweathogs" had passed away... Ron Palillo, known to many as Arnold Horschack.  Unfortunately, he was only in his 60's when had passed away from a heart attack.   I couldn't make a wordart of his signature "OOH!  OOH! OOH!" look right, so I hope this wordart will do...

Taking time to pause

This week I'm posting some wordarts that are a little more reflective.  A couple of days ago, I had a customer who was dealing with a part of the sadly historic shooting at Aurora.  It was part of the aftermath, one of the thankless yet necessary tasks that were needed in the wake of the tragedy.  And here I was, in the upper northeast of the United States, being asked to assist in a minor role in the wrap up for that dreadful night.  It made me think of the sayings about everything having a ripple affect beyond the immediate situation.  Today's freebie is in tribute to the victims of that horrific moment.  Of course, they can be used for other situations, but they seemed appropriate today.
